THE TRUTH ABOUT HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP

For those of you still scratching your heads about whether or not high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is bad for you - IT IS.

 

Recently the good people at the High Fructose Corn Syrup industry (insert sarcastic laugh here)  have petitioned the FDA to rename their product “Corn Sugar.” As if that’s going to change the nature of how bad their product really is.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and sounds like a duck…..it’s still a duck, even if you call it “Corn Sugar”. Quack…

 

THE FACTS:

To say that HFCS is unnatural is an understatement. It goes through a chemical process that rearranges its molecular structure. It’s sweeter than sugar, cheaper to make, and your body has

no idea what to do with it. It is the epitome of a processed food product.


HFCS raises blood sugar higher and faster than regular sugar, is linked to pancreatic cancer (the cancer cells feed off it), causes inflammation in the body, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, obesity, raises blood pressure, and triglycerides, and the bad list goes on and on. Ladies, it’s also known as “wrinkle fertilizer” robbing your skin of collagen and creating wrinkles.

So why, then, is it in so many foods these days? It’s cheap. In a country like America where Big Food spends billions on lobbyists and commercial campaigns to get what they need to make huge profits with minimum outlay, HFCS is boss. It’s in everything from drinks to cereals to jams to baby food. Did we mention it’s also considered to have an addictive quality? Meaning the more you eat foods with HFCS in it, the more you want those foods.

 

The debate is over: HFCS is evil no matter what they want to call it. Read your labels – you’ll be shocked at how it appears in everything. Stay away from it and definitely keep your children away from it. We’re not saying you need to ditch your guilty pleasure coca-cola once a week, but the rest of the time avoid it like the plague.

 

The best way to keep HFCS out of your life is to eat whole and organic foods. Check the labels on anything else you pull off the shelf. Be your own advocate.
